Chihuahua Dwarf Crayfish
(Cambarellus chihuahuae)

syn. -

distribution:

Mexico: Ojo de Carbonera / Chihuahua

local name: -

size: (?)

extinction date: (?)

The Chihuahua Dwarf Crayfish was once thought to live only in a single spring (Ojo de Carbonera in the state of Chihuahua / Mexico), but was later found in three other springs within 3 km of the typus locality.

The reasons for its extinction are the same as in Alvarez's Dwarf Crayfish (Cambarellus alvarezi): pumping of groundwater for agriculture and thus the complete destruction of the ponds in which the crayfish species was living in.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The agricultural industry in this region itself has in the meantime collapsed - owing to a lack of groundwater!
