The Sulawesi Dwarf Kingfisher (Ceyx fallax (Schlegel)), as its name implies, is resident to the island of Sulawesi, where the bird occurs in forested areas from sealevel to an elevation about 1000 m.

The subspecies from the island of Sangihe, which was slightly larger than the nominate race, is now considered most probably extinct.
