The up to 2 m tall Kahana Cyrtandra is one of the many species within the already extremely species-rich genus Cyrtandra, that is/was endemic distributed on the island of O'ahu.

It is known exclusively from one locality in the Kahana Valley in the Ko'olau Mounatins, where it was collected for the last time in the year 1947.
