The Hearth-leaved Aralia Tree, an up to 6 m tall tree with broad ovate, 9 to 20 cm long leaves, was scientifically described in the year 1912.

The species grew in the wooded limestone hillsides at the Dolphin Head Mountain in the west part of the island of Jamaica, but wasn't found again during any of the recent searches.
