This fern species is known only from the typus material, which was collected at the end of the 19th resp. the beginning of the 20th century at the Río Peripa near the town of Santo Domingo de los Colorados in Ecuador.

The only known habitat of this species doesn't exist anymore, resp. was destroyed by the building of the Daule-Peripa dam, which is why also many people had to abandone their homes forever without ever getting any redress.
