During excavations on the only about 7 kmē large island of Aguiguan, among others bone remains of an yet undescribed species from the genus Porzana were found.

The bones may either represent a single, very variable species, or even perhaps two distinct species.

Similar findings are known from Aguiguan's two neighbouring islands, Rota and Tinian.
