Negros Fruit Dove
(Ptilinopus arcanus)

syn. -

distribution:

Philippines: Negros

local name: -

size: 16,5 cm (length)

extinction date: about 1980

This species from the Philippine island of Negros is known to the scientific world only on the basis of one female specimen.

The area in which the species was collected is now almost completely deforested and the bird's - assumed - biotope therefore destroyed.

Up to day all searches remained unsuccesfull, nevertheless this species may well be rediscovered some day, like on another of the Philippine islands, Cebu, other species, believed to be extinct, were rediscovered in the meantime.
