Rheocles pellegrini   (Nichols & La Monte)

(Rheocles pellegrini)

syn. -

Madagascar: Andapa District (?)

local name:

Zona (Malagasy)

size: (?)

extinction date: (?)

The Madagascar Rainbowfish family currently comprises two genera with about seven species respectively, which all are freshwater dwellers restricted exclusively to the island of Madagascar.

The Zona was scientifically described in the year 1931, however, the locality was noted only vaguely, and is supposed to be located one-day trip west of the town of Andapa in he same-named district in the north east of Madagascar.

Therefore, the Zona may very well be still extant, and may probably be rediscovered someday.
