Vernonia sechellensis (Baker)
|syn. Cacalia sechellensis (Kuntze)|
|local name: -|
extinction date: sometimes after 1874
|The Seychelles Ironweed,
which is known only from the island of Mahé, was collected only once, in
the year 1874, and is considered extinct since.
The reason for the extinction of this species is the extensive clear cutting of the island's forests at the beginning of the 20th century, which lead to the destruction of nearly all of the native primary vegetation.
